The Cost Of The Commute
If you are fortunate enough to still have a job, and a part of that job is commuting to work, have you ever stopped to consider the cost of your commute? Sometimes putting monetary terms to various endeavors is an interesting exercise to understand the true cost of things. For example, if you are paid $50,000 per year and work 50 weeks, your weekly pay would be $1000. If you work 40 hours a week — and let’s face it, few people work only 40 hours — your hourly rate is $25 per hour. If you spend roughly one hour commuting to work, and then another hour commuting home you spend 10 hours a week commuting for a cost of $250. Over the course of a year, that commute of yours has cost you $12,500. That’s one expensive commute.
